Onda and Opera Mini let Brazilians surf, right out of the box
Oslo, Norway - June 15, 2011
Opera Software today announced that the Opera Mini browser will come preloaded on a newly-released device from handset manufacturer Onda, in Brazil. The Onda N235 is the first Onda phone to launch in Brazil that is available for the open market.
Users will now have one-click access to the Opera Mini browser on the Onda N235, allowing them to surf the Web efficiently and have instant access information on the go. This offering is the icing on the cake for the feature-heavy Onda N235. The device comes with a QWERTY keyboard and dual SIM technology, which allows the user to have two phone subscriptions on the same device using a second SIM card.
"The addition of the Opera Mini mobile browser to our handset is the perfect marriage and provides a fast and secure mobile Internet connection to our users in Brazil," said Vincenzo Di Giorgio, CEO of Onda in Brazil. "The popularity of Opera made it an easy choice for us when deciding on which browser company to partner with as we launch our new device in the Brazilian open market."
The Opera Mini browser, the world's most used mobile browser, has more than 100 million monthly users and two billion daily page views. It works on more than 3,000 different mobile phone models, from basic feature phones to high-end smartphones. The unique Opera Mini technology compresses web content by up to 90 percent before sending it to the phone, resulting in faster page loading and lower browsing costs.
It shares many features with Opera's browsers for desktop, including tabbed browsing, password manager and Speed Dial.
"Our goal has always been to offer the full Web to our users - no matter the device. Partnering with a popular handset maker such as Onda makes us closer to our purpose of bringing the Internet anywhere, everywhere," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software.
