Telenor and Opera announce partnership for Myanmar
Faster and more affordable mobile internet experience for Telenor customers
Telenor and Opera Software today announced their partnership to bring more cost effective mobile internet experiences for their customers in Myanmar.
From today, Telenor Myanmar customers can access faster and more affordable internet from their mobile devices via the Opera Mini browser, where they can access the local relevant content, free Wikipedia and Facebook Zero with just one click.
Opera Mini makes the mobile internet affordable by shrinking webpages by as much as 90%, helping people browse more for the same money. All Telenor subscribers can now download the Opera Mini browser for free from both m.opera.com and Telenor’s mobile portal.
"Opera works with Telenor around the world to provide faster and better internet access for all and to simplify the way people get access to the web,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software. “Together, we provide a high-quality mobile internet experience, which the people of Myanmar can now afford on their own terms."
Telenor launched its network in Myanmar on 27 September 2014 and its affordable mobile services are now available in the three main cities, Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, through 16,000 outlets.
“It is important for us to provide a high quality and affordable mobile internet experience to our customers in Myanmar,” says Petter Furberg, CEO of Telenor Myanmar. “Partnering with Opera and ensuring that our customers get more from their mobile internet experience is just another example of how Telenor works to ensure that the internet is for all and not just the few.”

Launched in 2006, Opera Mini is today used by over 250 million people worldwide. Opera Mini's advanced technology compresses webpages before sending them to the users’ mobile devices, delivering a faster and smoother mobile internet experience. In other words, Opera Mini users use less data to load webpages on their phones or tablets. They can get the most out of their data plans, as the data delivered to their devices is reduced by Opera Mini servers.
More local relevant content for Telenor customers
People who download Telenor’s version of the Opera Mini browser on their phones will be able to access relevant local content and offers via Opera Mini’s shortcut screen, called Speed Dial. Telenor’s customers will get one-click access to free Wikipedia and Facebook Zero from Speed Dial. Also, they will be able to make the best use of Opera Mini’s Smart Page, which suggests relevant content, based on the sites users visit most frequently.
Opera Mini works on almost any phone
Opera Mini is available on almost any mobile phone platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, Java ME, iOS, Symbian OS and Windows Mobile, among others.
