Students in India get trained on safe surfing habits.
Opera Software and IAMAI to organize Surf Safe seminars in schools.
Through its Surf Safe campaign, Opera Software has been working to increase understanding about the importance of healthy internet-browsing habits among young adults in India since 2011. Opera, along with experts from the internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), conducts seminars in schools and colleges to educate young people about techniques to help them have a safe and productive web-surfing experience.
This year, Opera is traveling to schools in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Kolkata and Patna to give on-ground seminars on safe surfing habits. Rakshit Tandon, Consultant at IAMAI, will conduct these sessions for students studying in sixth grade onwards.
"The internet is a knowledge-rich platform that offers information on every subject. Children use it for research, gaining knowledge, connecting with friends, sharing information and entertainment", says Sunil Kamath, Vice President for South Asia, Opera Software. He added, "At Opera, we believe it is important to train children to reap the maximum benefits from the internet without compromising their safety and security. We hope students get the maximum benefits out of these Surf Safe seminars."

However, restricting them from the medium is not a solution, as that will only stop them from gaining knowledge. Rather, the focus should be on helping them understand the real world of the web and educating them on internet safety", adds Rakshit Tandon.
Since 2011, the Surf Safe seminars have reached more than 38,500 students in cities including Ahmedabad, Pune, Nashik, Chennai, Bangalore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Allahabad, Agra and Lucknow.
