Opera unveils connected-TV concept: Live demo of Opera on Intel’s CE 3100 at IBC 2009

Oslo, Norway — September 11, 2009

Opera Software today announced thatits Opera Devices SDK 10 now supports the Intel Media Processor CE 3100,the first system-on-a-chip (SoC) based on Intel architecture forInternet-connected consumer electronics. Opera will debut its browser fordevices running on Intel's CE 3100 during IBC 2009 in Amsterdam, September11-15.

Opera's support for the CE 3100 is a key milestone in the roll-out of"Opera for connected TVs" strategy. With a commitment to providing IPTVplayers with the ability to create and deploy value-added services easily,Opera enables a fast, non-intrusive and simple way of bringing the Web tothe TV screen. In one push of a button or less, TV viewers can access andnavigate Web content in tandem with their live programming.

Widgets are one of the key drivers of the "Opera for connected-TVs"strategy, as they provide simple, one-click access the Web. The OperaWidgets running on Intel's CE 3100 were designed to be non-intrusive, andare fast and easy to command using the remote control. This "Widgetsenvironment for TV" concept demo, now on display at IBC 2009, showcaseshow IPTV players can easily create and deploy value-generating services.TV viewers benefit by being able to access and manipulate popular andcontext-sensitive Web content without departing from live TV content.
