Opera completes the new ARCHOS Internet Media Tablets
Oslo, Norway - September 1, 2008
Opera Software today announced that ARCHOS, the global consumer electronics manufacturer and leader in portable digital entertainment solutions, has once again selected the Opera browser for devices to complete its new line of Internet Media Tablets, the ARCHOS 5, 5g and 7.
The Opera 9 browser is available free of charge to ARCHOS customers and will automatically be activated upon device registration. Opera has long been a feature on the ARCHOS line of portable video players, including the ARCHOS 604 WiFi, 605 WiFi and 705 WiFi.
When surfing with Opera from the sleekly redesigned touchscreens of the ARCHOS 5, 5g and 7, users will have to option to connect via WiFi or over their cellular 3G network (subscription required). Opera also comes bundled with Flash 9.0 in this delivery, ensuring access to limitless Web content.
"ARCHOS has chosen Opera for each of our Web-enabled devices as the browser has proven itself time and again to deliver the best Internet experience for our portable media devices," says Henri Crohas, CEO, ARCHOS. "With the Web in focus for our new Internet Media Tablets, we were really able to unleash Opera's full potential and give our customers a faster and fuller Web plus Widgets."
Users of the ARCHOS Internet Media Tablets will enjoy a much faster Web experience due to the newly-included ARM processor, as well as the ability to download and use Widgets. Widgets for ARCHOS include instant access to services such as weather forecast, news, currency and unit converters and a calculator.
"It's exciting to be a part of new devices in which the Web is a key component. ARCHOS is an important partner to Opera because they recognize the value of integrating a high-quality browser in their products. As users become more sophisticated, their tolerance for a limited Web experience diminishes, and with Opera you get the same superior Web experience across the board," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software.
