Opera takes the stage at IBC

New SDK and new solutions for pay-TV operators on show

The curtain is rising on the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), where Opera Software will showcase its next-generation Software Development Kit (SDK) and Opera TV Store solutions for operators and brands.

Opera will debut at IBC the brand new Opera Devices SDK 4.0 based on the Chromium/Blink rendering engine - making Opera the first company to unveil a commercial-grade Chromium/Blink SDK for TV and set-top boxes. The adoption of Chromium/Blink brings superior hardware acceleration and JavaScript performance to match the demands of popular web services, higher performance chipsets and multi-core architectures. Opera's new SDK also features a new, simpler integration API and a flexible multi-thread, multi-process architecture.

The new SDK supports HTML5 and CE-HTML video and is prequalified for prime content such as YouTube Leanback, Spotify and BBC iPlayer. The SDK can also power the Opera TV Store, Opera’s HTML5 application platform, for Smart TV devices. Keeping in mind the need to address lower-end Smart TV Devices, Opera's team has also made additions and improvements to the SDK's memory management module and added support for DirectFB painting.

Opera’s over-the-top solutions for pay-TV operators and OEMs will also star at IBC. Featuring hundreds of entertaining apps, the Opera TV Store brings OEMs and operators a great selection of OTT content for their end subscribers, including video, music, games, social media, news and utilities. The Opera TV Store also offers opportunities for customization of user interfaces and monetization through Opera’s ad networks.

Brands and video content owners will be in the spotlight for Opera at IBC with the new Opera TV Snap tool, which simplifies app development and brings video content quickly to TV audiences. Opera TV Snap represents a unique Smart TV distribution option for online video platforms, content delivery networks and multi-channel networks.
