Opera joins the forces of Silicon Valley
Mountain View, CA and Oslo, Norway - October 23, 2007
Opera Software, the only company that puts the Web on any device, plants its flag in Silicon Valley. Among partners and customers in Mountain View, Opera is set to advance its efforts in enabling a universal Web experience with a new office in the heart of the tech industry.
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and with nine satellite offices, Opera Software has grown with the increasing business opportunities for Web use on various devices. The Opera browser's small size and portability make it the browser of choice for manufacturers of all device segments looking for a feature-rich and full Web browser, such as Nintendo, Motorola and Samsung.
"In 1999, Opera created the market for accessing the Web on any device. Today, the industry and consumers are realizing the value of using the same services wherever they are," says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "Our presence in Silicon Valley will allow our business relationships and Web development initiatives to deepen with closer collaboration."
Opera currently delivers a full Web browser and browser-based products for the desktop, mobile, devices and vertical markets. Opera sees the convergence of Web services among various device types as an opportunity for its powerful performing and portable-browser core. Opera intends to further its cooperation with U.S. operators and device manufacturers to directly provide its advanced mobile Web-browsing experience to the American market.
Opera Software opened its first U.S. office in 2005 in San Diego, California. Its two U.S. offices aim to enrich the company's existing relationships in the United States while exploring new ones. Current Opera partners and customers include Google, Yahoo!, Adobe, Motorola, Palm, Nintendo of America, and Qualcomm, among others. Its browser-based products include the Opera browser for all major desktop platforms, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Opera for Wii and Opera Widgets.
To announce Opera's arrival in Silicon Valley, the browser leader has chosen a San Francisco venue, the Rickshaw Stop, to host its next product launch party. The doors will open to the "Rock Opera" event at 7 p.m. (PST) on Thursday, October 25, 2007. Guests will include Opera's partners, customers and community members as well as members of the media.
